Jeff Godwin is acting as an advisor to Restore the Land to assist in topic development, speaker acquisition and overall wise council.
Jeff is a graduate of Tarleton State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Range and Ranch Management (1999) and a Master of Science in Agriculture, emphasis Range Animal Science (2000). Jeff currently works as the State Grazing land Specialist with the (NRCS) Natural Resources Conservation Service in Temple, Texas. Responsibilities include providing statewide leadership with Texas Grazing Land Conservation Initiative (TXGLC) activities. He assists TXGLC in the development of operation plans, setting goals, determining conservation needs on grazing lands and setting statewide priorities. Provides support in the development and implementation of federal, state, and local programs that directly impact grazing lands. Provide staff assistance in performance of quality assurance activities as directed in accordance with state and national guidelines. Serve as a member of the state interdisciplinary technical team, providing support to program staffs in development and implementation of federal, state and local programs and initiatives. Provide support in the administration of contracting and development of ecological site descriptions in Texas.
Previously Jeff has worked as a Rangeland Management Specialist in Cleburne, Corsicana, Eastland and Lampasas working directly with ranchers developing conservation plans addressing specific grazing land resource concerns. Jeff also worked as a rangeland management specialist at Fort Hood where he was responsible for planning and applying a coordinated natural resources conservation program for Fort Hood rangelands.
Jeff began his rangeland management career in 2000 working as a research associate for the Texas Agricultural Experiment Station’s Ruminant Nutrition program in Vernon, Texas where he was responsible for all ranch operations, and the acquisition and analysis of data pertaining to the Beef Cattle Nutrition program.
Jeff has been member of the Texas Section Society for Range management for 15 years. Jeff currently serves as the President of the Texas Section Society for Range Management and serves the Society for Range Management as the Chair elect to the Advisory Council. The Advisory Council is a council of all International, state and regional sections that serve as a planning, consultative, and advisory body to the SRM Board of Directors. Jeff has assisted the section by serving and chairing several committees, TSSRM Board of Directors (2008-2010), (2010) Outstanding Rangeland Management Award Chair, (2007) Director Youth Range Workshop, (2007) Youth Activities, (2006) Membership Committee, (2005) Membership Chair, (2004) College Activities, (2004) Information and Education, (2003) Endowment Fund, (2003) Excellence in Range Management Award. Nationally, Jeff has also served SRM (2008) Certified Professional in Rangeland Management Certification Committee, (2005) Annual Meeting Technical Tour Committee, (2005) Annual Meeting Local Information Committee.
